Milpitas, CA – April 3, 2025 – The Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS) hosted an exclusive evening with Shri Suresh Prabhu, former Union Cabinet Minister of India, for an engaging fireside chat on “India’s Future Growth Trajectory.” Held in Milpitas, the event brought together a cross-section of Indian-American professionals, entrepreneurs, and policy enthusiasts for a candid and forward-looking discussion on India’s developmental roadmap.

In the wide-ranging conversation, Shri Prabhu offered a comprehensive view of India’s evolving economic landscape, highlighting the country’s progress in sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, digital transformation, and manufacturing. Drawing from his decades of experience across key ministries including Railways, Power, and Commerce & Industry, he emphasized the importance of sustainable development, innovation-driven policy, and strong international partnerships in steering India toward inclusive growth.

A consistent theme throughout the dialogue was the critical need for grassroots-level development, which he identified as the foundation for India’s aspirations leading up to 2047—the centenary of its independence. He noted that transformation must begin at the local level to ensure equitable and lasting progress.

Shri Prabhu also stressed that innovation is central to unlocking India’s future potential. Through a series of compelling anecdotes drawn from his time in government and global engagements, he illustrated how effective governance, technology, and people-centric policy can work in tandem to address real-world challenges.

Mr. Yogi Chugh, FIIDS Policy Liasion Director, continued the conversation further touching various topics. Mr. Prabhu said on climate change as a defining challenge of our time, calling for environmentally responsible strategies alongside industrial expansion. On the international front, he articulated India’s ambition to become the world’s manufacturing hub, discussing how favorable policy frameworks and global alliances can support this goal.

Mr. Khanderao Kand, Director of FIIDS, also took the opportunity to brief the audience about the foundation’s ongoing initiatives and its future goals. He urged attendees for their participation in FIIDS’ upcoming Advocacy Day on July 15 in Washington, DC, calling it an important event for raising awareness and advancing policy changes that benefit both the U.S.-India relationship and the Indian diaspora.

The fireside chat concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage directly with Shri Prabhu on a range of topics, including India’s global positioning, policy innovation, and the role of the diaspora in shaping the nation’s future.

“This was a rare opportunity to engage directly with someone who has helped shape India’s economic policy from the inside,” said a FIIDS representative. “Events like these foster understanding and build meaningful connections between India and its global community.”
