Details: We are having this panel of esteemed scholars on Afghan region after few months take over of Afghanistan by Taliban. As US and NATO allies are completely out of the region, the attempts of Taliban government to get recognition has failed. Pakistan and China are taking advantage of the situation. Taliban are putting religious and other restrictions on people in general but on women and press in specific. Taliban is trying to fulfill its radicalization goals. Its growth would be influencing religious extremism in the world. This panel will review the situation and discuss security implications on the world in general but in South Asia – India in specific.

Mr. Hashim Wahdatyar:

Hashim Wahdatyar is Adviser and Research Fellow at the Afghan Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ACSSR) . He is having served as at one of the prominent Think Tank at Washington DC, the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) since November 2016. Prior to that, he served as Spokesperson and Program Officer of United Nations (UNODC) Regional Program for Afghanistan and Neighbouring Countries for almost one decade.

Mr. Wahdatyar is a known analyst on foreign policy, counter terrorism and counter narcotics. He is the author of several articles published in the well known journals and is a frequent commentator in print, on radio, and on television. His opinion and pieces have appeared in the Diplomat, Washington Post, Voice of America, Aljazeera, BBC and other major publications.

Dr. Shalini Chawla a is a Distinguished Fellow at the Centre for Air Power Studies (CAPS), New Delhi. She is a well known defense analyst, expert on Afghanistan and Pakistan, and an author of five books. She was a research scholar at IDSA, 1999-2002. She worked as a freelance defence analyst from 2003-2005 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. She joined CAPS in 2006 and focus of her studies is Pakistan and Afghanistan. She has authored five books Currently, she is the Project Director for the CAPS project – “Pakistan and Afghanistan: Present and Future”.

Dr Shalini Chawla received a Commendation and Badge by the Chief of Air Staff in October 2020 for displaying great dedication and professional ability, resulting in praiseworthy contribution to the service.
